Tips to avoid food waste

Polish Village Bread Tips to avoid food waste 1In the UK, we throw away approximately one third of all the food we buy every year – when in reality, most of it is perfectly good and could be eaten.

Stale bread, for example, has its uses, so don’t throw it away. Instead, why not toast a few slices in the oven and then break these up to make croutons for soup?

Alternatively, blend some stale bread slices to make breadcrumbs. These can be used to make stuffing or for coating chicken kievs, schnitzels or fish.

Take a tip from the Polish, who use their leftover chalka (polish plaited egg bread) to make French toast or Polish bread pudding (Makowki). Stale white bread also makes an excellent base for English bread and butter pudding.
